Positive IOD resulted in Locust Outbreak

The Climate change, global warming, ozone layer depletion have caused a havoc destruction from time unmemorable. The recent locust outbreak in the countries of Africa, Yemen, Iran, Pakistan and India is directly linked to climate change. The unseasonable heavy rain is directly linked to global change of weather or climate.

The Cause of Infestation: IOD

Indian Ocean Dipole: It has 2 type: - 1. Positive IOD

                                                                2. Negative IOD

The IOD is natural phenomenon by which we see difference in sea surface temperature between two areas.

The Positive IOD refers to warmer western Basin of Indian Ocean as compared to eastern basin. It lead to major phenomenon: -  

A) Excessive and intimately monsoon in the east Africa, India  and countries near it.

B) Excessive dry condition in the Western Australia

POSITIVE IOD AND LOCUST

• Favorable wet condition for breeding.
• Increase in moisture due to high temperature (low pressure area): which is favorable for their life cycle.
• Cyclone like wind blow: Favorable for their movement.
• Rainfall and Vegetation:- The rainfall has resulted in growth of vegetation leading to enough or abundant food for locust.

PATH OF OUTBREAK AND POSITIVE IOD

Following the path of positive Indian Ocean Dipole, the locust formed its own path of attack. It followed its movement in swarm from Africa and ended up to YEMEN, Iran, and Pakistan etc.

10. Lack of early detection system and warning system.
11. Spraying of chemical to kill them is also harmful for human.

CONCLUSION:-

 IN spite of many regulatory  bodies like LWO, Desert Locust Control Org. for Easter Africa; it has become hard to control the attack. For damage control of this, we need to work together as countries to make this, We need to work together as countries to make this concern hard in global level because united we stand, disastrously it falls.
